Advanced spectrum management in wideband code division multiple access systems enabling cognitive radio usage

چکیده
The authors propose a new advanced spectrum management (ASM) methodology for wideband code division multiple access systems based on the concept of coupling matrix, which is able to capture inter-cell interactions. The proposed methodology takes into account the fact that each cell can be associated to more than one carrier and aims at liberating some carriers in large geographical zones, so that they could eventually be used by, for example, secondary cognitive radio users that exploit the flexible frequency allocation and opportunistic spectrum access. Simulation results show that the proposed methodology increases spectrum efficiency while guaranteeing the requested QoS levels. Moreover, a new metric has been introduced to reflect the capability of the ASM methodology to liberate some carriers in large geographic zones. This metric has been used to compare the different approaches presented here.

Cognitive Radio: UWB Integration and Related Antenna Design
The emerging feature-rich and high-data-rate wireless applications have put increasing demand on radio spectrum. The scarcity of spectrum and the inefficiency in its usage, as caused by the current radio spectrum regulations, necessitate the development of new dynamic spectrum allocation policies to better exploit the existing spectrum. The current spectrum allocation regulations assign specifi...

Ultra Wideband (UWB) system is overlapped with various wireless systems, such as WLAN, WiMax and UMTS, which limits the use of UWB. Cognitive Radio (CR) enables UWB systems to efficiently use the overlapped spectrum without causing interference to other wireless systems. In this paper, we focuses on the low-complexity joint optimization algorithm design with respect to transmit power allocation...

The use of spread spectrum signaling, motivated primarily by its antijamming capabilities in military applications, leads naturally to the use of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) techniques that permit the successful simultaneous transmission by a number of users over a wideband channel. In this paper we address some of the major issues that are associated with the design of multiple access...
متن کاملBlind Detection of Wideband Interference for Cognitive Radio Applications
Cognitive radio technologies are being developed which allow heterogeneous systems to share spectrum access while minimizing interference to improve the overall efficiency of spectrum usage. Thus, one important function of a cognitive radio is dynamically to avoid transmitting in occupied spectrum by detecting signals received from unknown competing systems. Robust operation requires the detect...
